The course is designed to provide the necessary skills required for access to Arqiva infrastructure such as towers, masts and roof top locations.
During the course you will be instructed in the safe use of personal fall protection equipment used while climbing and the operation of permanently installed safety systems.
It’s also a requirement that when working on Arqiva towers and mast, that persons are competent in the use of rescue equipment to enable the recovery of an injured colleague. The telecoms climbers course covers rescue form towers mast and structures using the SpanSet SHARK rescue kit, but alternative equipment can be included if advised.
In addition to the work at height aspects, the course also educates delegates to understand the issues of working in locations that may contain RF hazards and the methods that must be employed to avoid over exposure.
Further to the use of fall protection equipment and awareness of RF hazards the course covers the use of rigging equipment to safely lift loads into position on towers and masts. During the course you will be trained to deploy capstan rope winches and SpanSet’s range of telecoms lifting systems.

The hierarchy of controls when working at height.
Work restraint, position and fall arrest systems.
Selection of personal fall protection equipment.
Pre use checks of common personal fall protection equipment.
Understanding the need and planning for emergencies/ rescue.
Use of personal fall arrest systems.
Using pre-installed vertical and horizontal safety systems.
Installation and use of temporary horizontal and vertical safety systems.
Use of work position lanyards. Rescue of an injured colleague.
Safe access to roof tops.
Use of work restraint systems on roof top locations.
Awareness of radio frequency hazards.
Understanding the controls used to work safely in electromagnetic fields.
Planning lifting operations and understanding the requirements of LOLER.
Selection and use of suitable lifting appliances: rope winches, chain hoist, accessories etc.
Calculating the mass of a load and identifying its stability.
Pre use checks of lifting accessories and hoists.
Safely slinging a load using a range of techniques.
Safely using a capstan rope winch and its accessories.
Using rope based systems to safely lift and lower a load.
Correctly securing tools and equipment at height.
Understanding the need and setting up suitable exclusion zones at the work site.
