Overview
  • The course is designed for those who intend to conduct or plan lifting operations.
  • This course provides the knowledge to allow delegates to plan and conduct lifting operations and formally inspect their equipment.
  • This course covers statutory requirements for inspection, rejection, disposal and reporting procedures for lifting equipment
  • Delegates must be 18 years or over
Summary of Key Elements Knowledge, Understanding & Practical Skills:
  • Legislation appropriate to conducting lifting activities – Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, LOLER 1998, PUWER and LEEA Code of Practice
  • Planning of a lifting operation, including assessing the load, selecting the correct equipment, and assessing the environment.
  • Safe and correct use of common lifting accessories (slings, shackles, chain slings, wire rope slings, eyebolts, hooks)
  • Pre-use inspection of common lifting accessories and identifying potential faults.
  • Mandatory documentation that must be maintained for lifting Equipment
  • Assessment of loads incorporating weight, centre of gravity, and any safety hazards.
  • Practical selection and use of suitable common lifting accessories (slings, shackles, chain slings, wire rope slings, eyebolts & hooks)
  • Pre-use inspection of manual lifting machines (Chain blocks & lever hoists)
  • Personal safety whilst conducting a lifting operation
  • Identifying potential misuse of lifting equipment
  • Completing a lifting plan.     
  • Thorough examination of chain slings, web slings, round slings, beam clamps, wire rope slings and associated connections. Production of scheme's of examination and inspection report forms.
